2020 Mar-Oct – webinars

The researchers didn’t let Covid-19 lockdowns stop them from learning more about their specialities and working on their research. They joined numerous webinars, such as KTH’s Emerging Topics in Control of Power Systems, which Emily Maggioli attended. Motaz Ayiad found GE’s webinar on History, Evolution, and Future of SCADA and Marie Curie Alumni Association‘s session Family Planning Competing with Leadership in Research useful for his career plans. Jovana Dakic tuned into Energyville’s webinar on Covid-19 & renewable energy. Meanwhile, Gayan Abeynayake made the most of Cardiff University’s Doctoral Academy workshops, as well as those hosted by the National HVDC Research Centre, the IEEE PES and the Supergen Energy Networks Hub.

Anubhav Jain scheduled monthly events to ensure he stayed up-to-date during his final PhD year. Some he found particularly helpful were:

April 2020:
Practical Use of Real Time Simulation for De-risking HVDC Integration, National HVDC Centre/RTDS Technologies.
De-risking Microgrids with Real-Time Simulation and HIL Testing, RTDS Technologies.
Weak Area Network Control of Wind Turbine Generators, ESIG/SGRE.

May 2020:
HVDC interaction studies with EMT simulation tools, HVDC Square/RTE Intl./ Siemens.
Microgrids: From Definition to Operation, GE.
General Introduction to EMT Simulations – Mathematical Background & Common Applications, PSCAD.

June 2020:
First Multivendor HVDC System in Grid Forming Operation, HVDC Square/RTE Intl./Equinor.
Workshop on Wind Power in Energy Systems, EERA JP Wind & SETWind.
