Daniel Westerman Spier attended the 3º Simpósio ibero-americano em microrredes inteligentes com integração de energias renováveis in Itaipu dam, Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. The conference is held by a group of universities from latin-america, Portugal and Spain called CYTED MEIHAPER.
Daniel presented his paper ‘Analytic estimation of the MMC sub-module capacitor voltage ripple for balanced and unbalanced AC grid conditions‘, which proposes an estimation of the modular multilevel converter (MMC) sub-module (SM) capacitor maximum and minimum voltage fluctuation. It is essential to keep the SM voltages within these values to ensure the MMC’s proper operation. The conference included a visits to Itaipu’s HVDC LCC station and the stunning Iguazu falls.
