DTU – Gayan Abeynayake

Gayan‘s secondment at DTU’s wind energy in spring 2019 was the perfect opportunity for him to expand his knowledge on the wide range of important research conducted there. He was able to complete his secondment work, as planned, thanks to the support from other researchers and supervisors in the Integration & Planning section. He enjoyed an interesting conversation with Middelgrunden Wind Farm‘s maintenance engineer who explained he would prefer the size and weight of offshore turbine components to be smaller in the future, to ease maintenance performance. This motivated Gayan in his research, which he is conducting on DC collection systems for offshore wind plants. He later enjoyed comparing an old Danish windmill to Middelgrunden’s sea turbines!
