Wei Liu attended CIGRE UK Young Member showcase on 5 February at the University of Manchester. CIGRE stands for Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques (which is French for international council on large electric systems).
He presented his research on ‘Start-up Strategies of Modular Multilevel Converters in HVDC Networks’, which was followed by audience questions and useful feedback. He then enjoyed the technical visit to Manchester University’s high voltage testing laboratory where the audience watched a 770kV discharging test.
