During his secondment at China Electric Power Institute, Wei Liu attended the 2020 Relay Protection Technology Forum.
Current renewable energy developments and integration are significantly changing conventional power systems. Therefore, experts from Transmission System Operators (TSOs), including China State Grid, and Universities, such as Tsinghua, Zhejiang and North China Electric Power, presented their investigations into relay protections. They discussed new methodologies and industrial practices, and allocated a new practice to the DC relay protection scheme on ‘Zhangbei ±500 kV Multi-terminal HVDC System’. Wei came away from the event with useful industrial and academic insight into this fast-changing area.
