Friends of Sustainable Grids organised ‘Green transition and energy system integration: An insider’s perspective with European Commission Director, Catharina Sikow‘. Catharina is responsible for the Green Transition and Energy System Integration in the Directorate General for Energy. Sustainable Grids’ CEO, Pierre Bernard, and Daniel Dobbeni, Managing Director of energy consultancy, ETHAN SPRL, then joined a conversation on European energy, regulations and markets. It was a truly international event, with people from all over the world attending, including from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas. You can watch the presentation on Friends of Sustainable Grids’ Facebook link.
Prof Dirk Van Hertum of KU Leuven led a follow-on discussion and debate with policymakers and scientific peers. Among these were Pierre Bernard, Leonardo Meeus of Florence School of Regulation, and Ceciel Nieuwenhout of Groningen University and the PROMOTiON project. They talked about Brexit challenges, auctioning, market coupling, governance, regulation, finance, interconnectors, security of supply, and grid operation and ownership.
You can read more about these topics on the PROMOTiON website and in Leonardo Meeus’s book, The Evolution of Electricity Markets in Europe.
